John Dillinger was frequent visitor to The Green Parrot in Masury, Ohio in the 1930's

Yeah true to be he like to gamble, shoot people etc. He stop here on the pa ohio border, this here establishment even had newspsper articles, plastic machine guns on the walls. He stopped on his way to youngstown, ohio and so on, got his car fixed here local mechanic in farrell, pa. rob a bank got something to eat and on his crazy ways. Interesting news in this area. even the lawmen played cards with him he could lay low and nobody would snitch him out, just the way it was back then i quess.

Best story I ever heard about JD was after he escaped from prison by using the gun carved out of soap, he stole a car and got so far ahead of the police chasing him that he had time to stop, rob a bank he happened to see, and then jump back into the car and continue the chase...good story, I hope it's true!

The Green Parrot Inn is about a half mile from my house. Rumor has it that he threw pennies to the kids from the second floor casino windows. The spot was right where the coal miners would exit the coal shafts.
The first thing they had to deal with on payday was the gambling and prostitution that was on the way home. I thought many times about searching the property which is in disrepair and has been vandalized.

Then I found out that the Green Parrot was RELOCATED from its original position to its present location when Ohio 82 and 62 was built in the late 50's and 60's. Gone forever is the chance to detect that location
which, incidentally, also was the site of a first class amusement park at the turn of the century. It is in a flood plain also so the park was not rebuilt after many floods.

Another location similar to the Green Parrot was the Jungle Inn just off of Rt. 7 and 62 near Youngstown. It burnt and was covered with many load of gravel and a chain link fence. The steel mills of Youngstown made the area
ripe for this type of activity. There was a reason Youngstown was called Mob Town USA.

When the mills closed in 1979 the area pretty much cleaned itself up over the years. Just recently Mill Creek Park, one of the oldest and largest park systems in Ohio, made a no detecting rule. I heard the politically appointed director
wants to ban detecting in all of Youngstown's parks. Some comment about metal detecting is just people stealing "his" artifacts.
