Is a silver ring stamped "made in the USA- sterling" unusual?

I dug a silver ring last week, on the grounds of a school dating back to the 30"s. My first thought was costume or 925. The band was broke, and I tried to bend it back to look for a stamp. It was very hard to bend, and I thought then it could be silver. Whipping off the mud, I first noticed "made in", and was sure it would be China or Japan. Then I saw USA- sterling", and got excited! It also has 10 tiny stones, which I'm thinking are Marcasite. Is the "made in the USA" stamp unusual?

That's a bit unusual for a jewelry hallmark , but after WWII (especially the 1950's) there was a hyper-nationalism and a counter sentiment to "made in Japan" etc.

if it says sterling I consider it sterling

Yes, I didn't doubt it was silver, but thought the "made in the USA" was odd.
