I have a few very early Buck knives and would lean that way as well but I am also curious about the older knife in the distressed sheath. Any chance of a description or seeing a picture with it out of its sheath?

I have had the Buck model for 30 years and it is still my favorite knife, but that Case is pretty cool looking.

The possibility of the one being a veteran of WW2 makes it hard to turn down. Kinda fits the era. One I have that started as a U.S. issue a Japanese officer was relieved of.
Some of them knives traveled for sure. No idea of the provenance of yours or where it has been but it seems unique enough to be more limited in availability if any.
The Buck woodsman a nice workhorse but hey, you get to choose. The Case may be worth a little more than what the Buck sells for, if each were new but they are close, unless the handle material/pattern of the Case is rare to collectors.
Case Slab Side Hunter, 3 1/2" Blade

best way to choose a knife...
pick it up and grip...
which feels best ?
which feels like it is an extension of "you"...
Which feels like it is a more "sure grip" to your hand etc.
OH and balance... which has the best balance for you... does it feel right.

After staring carefully...between the buck and the case...
I would choose the buck...
seems like tis better... better blade etc.
more dl style... black and chrome etc.
Betccha its worth as much as that case...
seems like a more "serious" type knife...
the other looks almost "play like".

I have a Buck Pathfinder (No. 105 - the smaller Buck you show) and it is a great all-around hunting knife. THE ADMIRAL (my wife) glommed onto it for heavy kitchen duty and she keeps it in a drawer beside the sink.

The Case likely has more collectors interest - but not much. Just seems more guys like Case. It's also a handy size for use if you are so inclined.

The other Buck looks to be a 119 Special. Good camp knife but a bit large for gutting and field-dressing deer.
