My first detector was a magnet on a cord that I drug around picking up iron and steel objects. I grew up on ground used by Confederate forces during the Battle of Atlanta, and was hoping to find CW artifacts with the magnet, but never did locate anything I could identify, though I did find a lot of nails. I have known a couple of guys that did some intense magnet fishing off of bridges around Atlanta, and they really had a lot of interesting finds, and an incredible amount of handguns. Cheers!!
