for those of you who don't understand what surface tension is let me explain-warning educational
water is a polar molecule made of 2 hydrogen tons and one oxygen atom
the oxygen atom has a negative charge and hydrogen atoms have a positive change so water can adheres and coheres
this is why water droplets sticks to glass, liquid metals do not share the same properties(this can be linked to its huge role in the creation of life but I wont go into that)
so essentially these water molecules have a positive and negative charge and want to bond to something(nature of the molecule)
when there is gold in your pan water cohesion happens and it creates tension your gold will rest on
when you add jet-dry it will connect with these water molecules and eliminate the tension so your gold wont float

sorry if this got boring

Jet dry not sudsy?!
Funny story when I first started Many moons ago I had a cal sluice recirc unit and ran material at home.
I heard the jet dry thing and gave it a shot one day...
I had the unit set up in the garage running into Tupperware container. I gave the bottle a good squeeze and turned on the water. I went inside for a few minutes and let the sluice run and when I came out I had a sudsy garage floor.
I learned quickly a little jet dry goes a long way.

I think we've all learned the lesson of how much is too much. My first time I had to shovel the foam out:laughing7:

Yes I have learned that lesson myself.

Come on Fellars, dumb it down a bit, the enviros reading this will figure out we ain't as stupid as we look, he he;)
Seriously, I posted a picture in the "gold porn, post up your gold pics boys and girls" thread, post #63. If you look at the lower left and right corners you will see some floating gold. I had jet dry in the blue bowl when I spun it out, but when I transferred it into a saucer I use to separate the chunkier stuff It was straight tap water.

Jet Dry is great! I use it always when I run my miller table. At the stream there is always that pesky piece of gold that floats. I think I'll start using it instead of tapping them down in my pan.
