I'm throwing this post together for all of the rookies that come to this thread looking for beginner information on gold prospecting all the time. I'll gather videos as I find them and then post them. Some of the videos are about panning, others about detecting, and some will explore various recovery methods. As well, some of them are just for the fun of seeing beautiful, sassy gold, and maybe the chance to explore a mine or two.

There's lots of gold panning videos out there, but if you're just starting out, this one has all the basics.

All the best,

Lanny

Here's another one on making a portable panning/sampling tub.

Just for fun--let's zip over to Western Australia for a big whack of sassy gold!

This same guy got quite a surprise when he tried to find a test target he'd buried quite a while ago.

The Aussie's call it dollying--we call it crushing--these guys had some great ore to crush no matter what you call it!

44 seconds of eye candy.

All the best,

Lanny

This guy does something (he talks about it near the end of his video) that I should have done on each and every nugget dig in bedrock I was on (I didn't do it the first couple of times, and I'm sure it cost me). It's a great tip--one well worth remembering.

All the best,

Lanny

Wooden gold pans! Very interesting technique--quite different from how I pan.

Been to visit this baby a few times and it never gets old--some nice guy shot a little video that showcases it nicely.

You know, I've heard of guys building the cabin over the entrance to their mine. Well, here's the proof! Go to 3:36 if you don't want to look at the countryside.

I don't recommend running around in or entering old mines, but someone else went to the trouble; moreover, they found evidence of gobbing. (I had no idea what this was as I'm a placer guy, but it is interesting.)

All the best,

Lanny

This guy has enough mine exploration videos that you can watch them until you black out!

I figure this thing has got to be worth way more than two bucks! Ha, ha. At about a minute and six seconds he picks this thing up, and it seems to grow!

Some nice gold in a little river sluice--faster processing than a pan.

As well, an interesting little video of a clean-up sluice. Check out all of the places the gold gets hung up. Moreover, check out how the gold wheel works in the next part of the clean-up.

All the best,

Lanny

I just got myself a Garrett super sluice 15" pan for $5 at a yard sale. Thing is heavy.
They are--how do you like it?
