I'd like to introduce myself to the forum. Jeff here from Northern California in the Motherlode area. I am pretty new to prospecting and caught gold fever very quickly. Ive got myself a few decent spots with my best spot on permission on private property. I havent found a whole lot, but I just love being outdoors and appreciating what nature can show me. :hello:

I mostly sluice when I have the time, but like to do some panning on new spots even if I only have a few minutes to test a spot.

Hope you enjoy

Very nice color!

I would build a dam in that creek and underwater snipe that beautiful bedrock!
Work one area, build another dam north of that, work that, build another and so on. :)

Very, very nice photography, J20, and welcome to tnet! Hey guys that pic of j20's bedrock is typical of what you can find ALL over cal. Mother Lode if you do the research.
With permission of landowners/claimowners one can do quite well with minimum investment by sniping those cracks!:icon_thumright:

Thanks guys, it's too bad that pretty bedrock didn't produce much, but did a little bit. I don't know what it is but it keeps bringing me back!

And it's on public land too

Trust me I thought about it, it has just barely a trickle this time of year. Half way up there is no water at all, most of the water coming down is only spring water. Guess I need to be there when it's downright pouring.

When I was just starting I got embarrassed crossing open fields carrying a big concrete-busting gad bar and other assorted sniping tools right in full view
of high-traffic roadways. Always imagined how crazy i looked! But got over it when those efforts paid in gold.

I know a couple of guys that like to do that bowfishing down here Kuger . I always thought I might
like to try it but never have . The guys I know ( and ones wife ) just go after spring carp in the shallows down here but they seem to like it . I saw a video one time that had guys moving in the boat and shoot'n some kind of fish when they jumped out of the water . They were hit'n them in the air . I had never seen anything like that before . I don't know where it was they were doing it at , but it looked like fun .

I was feeling the same way yesterday, bunch of people going by on a hiking trail gawking at the strange guy in the river playing with dirt, but after I started seeing nice colors in my pan I completely forgot there were other people around! My wife on the other hand was very much aware of everyone else and I'm sure she was trying her best to make it look like she wasn't with me.

J20 - couldn't help myself - had to take another look at your gold. First pic, that sure looks like "Pooh Bear" to me. HH

Good Morning jeffrm20,
I agree that first one on your thumb looks like a Teddy Bear, mighty sweet looking gold, setup, country. Its the detector that will
find the gold when the water is low and of course I'm sure you understand that the gold is being carried down hill so somewhere above
you is the real deposit. Somehow I can see a gold detector in your future and it could pay for itself fairly quickly.

One thing about your setup, I would suggest that the rock holding the A51 down should not be on top of the riffles but above them.
Being on top of the riffles it will disturb the water/riffle action allowing gold to go further down the sluice. If nothing else you've plenty of
limbs in the area and putting two limbs across the top of the box and then putting the rock on top of the limbs would keep the rock from
disturbing the flow. In your movie I can see the water forming a "V" at the top of the box so you have the left to right angle of the box seup
really well. Thank you for sharing................63bkpkr
