Where is the best place to buy gold panning equipment?

Hi i am new to gold panning so i do not have any equipment yet. I am in Maryland so what would i need to find mostly fine dust of gold plus other gold? Where is the best site or place to buy equipment i will need. Also could you list what equipment i will need the most and about how much it will be for each? I also been watching some videos on youtube. Also if you have a youtube channel about gold panning please let me know so i can watch it. Thanks for the help Chris

I have had extremely good luck on craigslist. I bought 4 pans, a letrap sluice, an angus mackirk sluice, and about 10 gold vials for a total of $80. One heck of a deal.

Welcome Chris,
The video layne shows above is an excellent video on panning and one I suggest to new folks. Gold fever prospecting is a pretty good place to get everything you need. Or you can go with the Garret kit or the GPAA kit you get when you join the GPAA. Or craigslist as stated. What you will need to start is two pans, one to use as a safety pan, a snuffer bottle, vile or two, classifier at least a 1/2" and if possible a 1/4" also. A #2 shovel, a couple of 5 gallon buckets, and if it is in the budget a sluice box. Some of this stuff is available around your house. You will eventually figure out what you want in your equipment. Sluice boxes come in a variety of styles and sizes so do a little research and see what you like and or can afford. Also read the threads in the forum about equipment. There is a wealth of knowledge here to learn from. Welcome again to the forum and a great hobby. Also I would suggest you find a club as close to you as possible to join. They usually don't cost too much and memberships are usually for the whole family. They will also be able to help shorten the learning curve for you.

I just visited Denver and did a little panning for the first time along Clear Creek. 2 pans, shovel, classifier of some sort, vile, and snuffer. Had a blast and even found flakes. Didn't have to worry about being arrested like everywhere I know here in Md. I'm a beginner also so let me know if you find anywhere legal to do it here.

My advice to Maryland. The people selling supplies got rich. If you are in it for a hobby. Post your finds. if you want to make money.....start a business selling supplies!

I bought my sluice in the garden department at Home Depot. Six inch diameter flexible sewer pipe, (called a Poop-Tube sluice). Cost me ten dollars for 3 foot. I buy my classifier equipment at Wal Mart in the kitchen department. A deep plastic pan with a metal drainer insert runs about $8 bucks. That gets the big rocks out. I use a plastic spaghetti collander for the gravel, (another $5 dollars). The most expensive item in my inventory was an iron breaker bar, ($30 dollars) and of course a shovel, ($12 bucks). You should be able to pick up everything you need for about $75 dollars. Scoops, wisk broom, dust pan, tweezers and a magnifying glass.. get all that at the Dollar Tree Store for another $10 bucks. With all the money you save, you can afford a really nice Garrett gold pan, (Lol).

When I decided to gets some pans, I purchased Garrett's deluxe set. Which is what you need. has little bottles, snuffer bottle, magnifying glass and tweezers,a 1/2 inch classifier, large pan, and finish pan. also you will need a couple of 5 gallon buckets. Since this time I have built a homemade High banker from plan's from a
book by Sam Radding. It really snowballs when you get ready for the field. I hope you do your research first, look for and know what a bargain is. Doing your own thing sometimes is the best advice and you will enjoy the treasure hunt. I get to use my high banker in two weeks and I am excited, good luck in your search.
