Most people want an element of surprise. And I could see the entertainment value in not knowing just what you are going to get. Living in Nevada I see casino parking lots full of cars. Most of those people are tourists hoping they will hit it big. Locals know a jackpot is typically 1-3 grand and jackpots aren't frequent. So financially it doesn't make sense yet locals still gamble. So why? I think it is the element of surprise. Maybe buying pay dirt is the same. I know panning my cons is exciting and if I knew exactly what was in there would make it more like a chore.

The guys had an idea for a vortex black sands separator & made one. We didn't bring any concentrates or black sands home with us so we decided to buy black sands & add our own gold to test the separator. We bought 50 pounds of black sands for $25 plus $16 shipping. We ran the sands without adding our gold & believe it or not we got just under 1 1/2 grams from it. Tiny tiny tiny gold!

WOW, you got a deal.

Lets see...$41 and a gram and a half at $1260 ... looks like $60 in gold

And your vortex sluice must be working....priceless

Hi Rob,

It's a vortex in a tank not a sluice.

Our first was in a 5 gallon bucket. We just made another in a 30 gallon drum. We'll test it but I'm sure it will work just as well. It should work faster due to it's larger size and the ability to put more sands. 50 lbs would take minutes as all 50lbs could be dumped in at the same time.

I don't want to hijack this thread. I'll take some vids or post some pics in a new thread.

If I made my own paydirt, it would be too easy to pan. The only thing I could use around here is some light blonde sand ( it blew in here from OK ) I couldn't make it very challenging. But that's me, I'm in farm country. Now if you had some decomposing granite and some black sand to throw in then you could make something fun.

IF I ever get some money, I'm heading for AZ

You can order straight black sand and mix it with your dirt and gold--that way it will challenge you more.

All the best,

Lanny

I take it you like my sand from lake superior ? Yup it's definitely small, 30 mesh is about big as it gets here in MI but there is tons of gold here.
It's kinda funny seeing someone talk about me on here so I figured I had to chime in. 1 1/2 grams is pretty good, the most I heard so far from customers was just under 3 grams from a 50 lb box. I know most sellers are in it for the money but I dont really care about that, I have made tons of friends and have invites to claims all over plus access to about any equipment I could think of. I recover enough gold to make me happy on my trips up north and all I want to do is provide that same feeling of ACTUALLY finding gold. You will probably see a lot of sellers claiming their dirt is from Alaska but are sending it from places like Florida or New York, I am actually the source for 9 other sellers on ebay. Not sure how good they salt their bags but definitely be aware of those types of sellers and ASK questions, you will find out real quick if its the real deal or just someone trying to make money.

By the way if you use that black sand with aqua regia it will put you over 2+ grams, tons of gold locked up in there

I've never really understood the whole buying paydirt to learn how to pan thing..... I learned by digging up dirt in the backyard and throwing some shotgun pellets in it. You can ever break some of the pellets with a roofing hammer into small chips....... if you can trap lead, you can trap gold

Our own Kuger on this forum was selling some paydirt from his out of state dredge operation that lots of members were speaking very highly of.

I say talk to Kuger also before you do anything.

Ok so it's been a while since i have been on here. Just checking the threads I started. The verdict is in. The bags I bought of eBay were definitely "salted" as some said they would be. Really not worth it. More of a novelty. I learned. Thank you everyone for the feedback.
