waders?

With the water as cold as it is do you wear hip or chest waders? This is my first year and I have only been out during the summer and fall when the water is nice to be in. I would imagine that they would make it very difficult if you are doing any hiking in.

I generally wear my calf-high mud boots when working a creek or
river, but if I need to be in water over the knees I'll wear a pair
of hip boots.

This time of year the water up here (and weather) can get real
cold, so then it's the 5 mil. super-tough neoprene chest waders.
If below 25F. I'll add a some polypro drawers underneath.

Best thing you can do is keep your hands dry, so a pair of durable,
insulated waterproof long gauntlet gloves is a must. A hat to keep
the heat in is also a must have.

I don't do much "hiking in", so what I use generally keeps me
warm and dry. If you are a long ways from the vehicle, I'd
suggest avoiding sweating if at all possible. Sweat in very cold
weather = hypothermia!

I've used Hodgman chest and hip waders and both can't be beat...best bang for the buck. The 5 ml chest waders with built in boots are outstanding! Check Amazon for prices and reviews.

If you go with neoprene. Look for some repair stuff called "Fix All" white tube light blue lettering. Shoe Goo doesn't even compare. Stuff has saved many a trip.

I think so, looks like it other then the Scandic writing, lol! Grainger has it. I was on a trip and my boot basically ripped across the top where the crease is. Got back to camp and gookumpuckied It up, next morning was good to go, lasted the rest of the trip without problem. They boots failed again in a different spot so they went to the trash but the first repair never did leak. On my wet suits and waders anytime I get a cut or abrasion I smear a little on and it stops it from ripping or tearing further. Love the stuff right up there with duck tape and bailing wire.
