I've had a CZ-7A for about a year and an F5 some months longer than that. The F5 is my everyday/land unit and the CZ-7A is my beach/sometimes land unit. After a year my conclusion is that the F5 out-finds the CZ-7A, every time without exception on comparable ground (and with the proviso that the F5 suffers from EMI under one of the beach piers I go to, and I don't try it on wet salt sand at all). One factor is that finds here in Oceanside, California (charitably known to me as "the hellhole") are poor to fair at best anyway (especially on the beaches which are only poor). Usual configurations are 12" Sunray coil on the CZ, and stock 10" on the F5. Every time I take out the CZ instead of the F5 I anticipate greater depth and a wider sweep; every time I take out the F5 instead of the CZ I'm relieved by the elegance and control of the interface. I can't figure out why the F5 beats the CZ every time, but it does. And when I get my NEL Hunter coil for the F5, the disparity is likely to increase.

LOL I don't know that it'd be much different from a 7A except for analog vs digital, and could be tuned by NASA Tom (he doesn't work on the digital models, I asked).

No need to keep a inferior machine so how much will take for it?
The cz7a!

Well I just paid $575 for it 2 weeks ago with the 8" spider and 5" coils. I would like to get that out of it shipped conus. I've assembled it and tested in my yard but that's about it. I also added a coil cover and armcuff strap that didn't come with the machine I had a Nasa Tom tuned 3D that was certified to 10.3" and this CZ-5 was quite a bit deeper than the 3D I had. Tom said he would convert it to a 3D for $225 but you only have 3 tones when you convert a CZ-5 over to a 3D

I know it's a damn good machine....maybe I just have such a tremendous rapport with the F5. Just found a school that appears to have some potential (two popular soccer fields)... I'm planning a controlled comparison on this virgin-to-me site, with the F5, CZ-7a and maybe even my "other" machine, the Compadre. Two hours each. We shall see.

Met a guy swinging an AT Pro at one of my so-so sites...what he told me he had found per hour was about half of what I consider marginal. Maybe I'm just spoiled. Won't say the AT sucks but his swing technique sure did. Maybe I'm not doing too bad.

Maybe the 12" coil is the problem and not the machine, see's a hell of a lot of ground under a 12" coil..I prefer the 8" coil on mine,i don't even care for the 10.5" coil.

You need to compare with another CZ7a to see if your machine is up to spec. Pretty certain they use to say a tune up every four or five years.

Make certain its Fisher qualified staff. I returned my old CZ to the US and they got two inches more depth out of it than a supposedly trained person in England.

Wow, first I heard of a f5 beating a cz7. I think you need to send the cz in for a look over it should swamp the f5 with no problem.

I've been thinking about doing that. Anybody have a feeling for what a CZ should air test on a quarter? Mine seems to get about 9 inches.

I think your cz7a needs a Doc visit. The cz must need some work. I could not stop laughing when i read this.i get almost 12 inches on a quarter.Call Tom D.

I have a Tom tuned CZ 6a and CZ 5 and they are way more machine for hunting coins than an f 5. Not even in the same league. You should have it checked out. My CZ 6a was Tom tuned to 11.9 in on a clad dime. Have your CZ checked out.

You guys are right...I air tested the CZ and it can only get a quarter at 6 inches...when I got it it tested at 12 inches. No wonder I can't find anything--duh!! Tom D. doesn't work on digital CZs (I asked) but Keith Wills (East Texas) does. I plan to send it in before spring.
