Stayed many nights I did in Taos when the mine in Questa was running. I did a lot of business there for about 20 years until they shut it down for good. Pretty devastating deal for all the friends I made over all those years who lost their jobs.

Yes, the Questa mine decision affected some in my family. Taos is great for rock picking though

I really miss my trips down there. I had my own brass tag to enter that mine, because we had consignment inventories onsite. I did a count once a month and stayed a couple days. It was always a nice drive from my place north of Denver down that way. I never did much rock collecting though. Went on some hikes around Red River a couple of times.

Some staurolites I found. Taos, New Mexico
I had to google those. Interesting things, apparently only one place here they can be found, on the other side of Oz too far away for me.
At first glance I thought they were some fossilised bones!
