Marriage Saved, Rings Lost

A few years back I was working as a Maintenance/Housekeeping Manager at a Casino, on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation. The word got around that I had metal detectors and liked to find things with them. One of the workers approached me and asked if I could find things like lost rings and the like. I told her yes. She told me a story about her girlfriend getting mad at her husband, and while parked on a dirt road she threw her wedding rings out the window. Well the female worker from the casino went there the next day and found the rings, we are talking about a $10,000.00 set of wedding rings. As she was sitting in her car she thought about her girlfriend, and the fact that she was still upset with her husband, so she threw the rings out the window again. The rings remained in the area for about a year, and the girlfriend went back to the location, several times, but never found the rings. When the worker ask if I would help I told her sure. We set up my search for the rings on a Sunday, when I was off from the casino. I have a Spectrum XLT metal detector. The worker didn't remember just exactally where she was when she threw the rings out the second time, so I started at the end of the road and went down the left hand side of the wheel marks. I didn.t find anything. I went the full length of the little dirt road. When I got the the end of the dirt road on the left hand side, I started back up the right hand side. I was almost to the end of the, where it started, and I got a signal from the center of the hump in the middle of the road. As you know on the Spectrum XLT there are Icons, and the Ring Icon was showing up. I drove my pick into the ground, taking care to be off center from the peak signal I had, and boom the engagement ring poped out of the ground. The worker told me she threw both rings out together, so I figured the other ring was in the area. I continued to make my sweeps, and pow again, another ring Icon poped up with a strong signal. Again, taking care to be off center, I drove the pick into the ground and boom the Wedding Band came to the surface. It had been 2 years since the rings were lost, and the Bride was so happy to get them back. They asked if I wanted a reward, and I told them buy me lunch sometime. That was the largest find I have ever had. A $10,000.00 set of Diamond rings.

Stealth, you could have easily pocketed those rings, but what a great guy you are for returning them. :) I know it feels better to return something that was lost than keeping it. Hopefully, the good karma has come back to you tenfold. ;)

Instead of a reward ask them if you can metal detect their yard.
