Identification of markings on a map

I am looking to get some advice on a map to determine where a residence or house would have been located on the following attachment. I am assuming the little "dots" are indicating a house/building structure but I wanted to confirm.

    Thanks,

    John

Another question on a plat map

As I have found additional plat maps I have a few more questions since there is no indication of a legend on the map I located. Next to the names I am trying to determine the markings next to the date.

Here are my guesses but if anyone can provide information if my hunch is correct.
H- 1870 Does this indicate the "homestead" was granted in 1870?
M-1866 Not sure what the "M" indicates
P-1868 Is indicating there was a Land "Patent" granted/transferred?
