How about what types of mining/prospecting we are all into, what area your in and maybe a little info on your history?
I'll go first, hehe
Dredging in southern BC coldwater, I love the history of the 49'er days and the local gold rushes. I was raised in the Yukon almost on the Klondike Trail to Dawson, close to a town on Lake Bennett called Carcross so it's in my blood from a young age.

From Sitka, Alaska. Enjoy panning and sluicing. Considering buying a Minelab Eureka Gold, GB2, or Whites GMT. Spent the last two summers traveling the Yukon River 2,200 miles from Whitehorse, YT to Kotlik, Alaska and then up the coast to Nome. Spent my evenings prospecting near camp. Got the bug. Going north again this Spring to the Circle District.

Open to any and all suggestions and ideas. Planning a summer trip to AK? Need a partner or camp grunt? Let me know.

IM FROM OKLAHOMA, NOT SUPOSED TO BE MUCH GOLD HERE. I HAVE FOUND SOMETHING NOT SURE IT'S FLAKES OR FOOLSGOLD. ANY ADVICE?
Duckjob:
Try cutting your flakes with your pocket knife. If the flake breaks, brittle like, its foolsgold.

Hi everyone

Hi everyone,

I have uncles that have had claims in the Likely, Barkerville areas and I have worked with them on their equipment as well as doing some sniping with a goldpan. I'm looking into getting a MD to shoot for nuggets this spring and welcome any recommendations.

Born in Detroit and there is not any gold there save for jewelry stores and pawn shops. Moved to NorCal in 61. Hiked into a mother lode river canyon in February of 1963 and I've been back packing in the area ever since. For many years I ignored the prospecting aspect right in front of me even when I stumbled across loads of modern mining equipment as well as some ancient items. Explored a few mines and finally took to panning and always got flakes. Bought one of the original GB's found nothing, bought a GMT and found gold. Built a few types of classifiers and found a few nuggets. Bought a 2" back packable Keene Dredge and found nothing. I've many more side canyons to play around in and plan on being at this for many more years especially as I just love being out there anyway and when the fishing and swimming is good man there is nothing like it!.................63bkpkr

Got my first gold as a Seven-year-old, riding back into the Bradshaw Mountains on horseback with my Father. After serving in the Army from 1973-1976, I got away from prospecting for a while, attending college and raising a family. In 2007, I got back into it in a big way, and started my own business Arizona gold prospecting, gold prospecting, gold panning I am proud to say we have now taught a few thousand folks how to get started the right - and responsible way. :icon_thumright:
