water was cold, weather was awesome and ended up with a little g+p, and nope, I will not be refining this or any other placer platinum. ?Pic is of some of the specimen nuggets I got this weekend and a few beauties from last season. ? Bigun on the far left is .38 gram. ?The two on the far right came out of the pan almost black, I just about discarded them as chunks of magnetite, cleaned up with a lil Muriatic. ?Chris

thanks all

Hey John, water was pretty cold, I picked up a drysuit and it makes all the difference in the world, face still gets cold, in fact I had sinus bleeding within 15 minutes, but that swas pretty minor, it will just take a little getting used to. A dredging buddy of mine froze his face so bad one time that he couldn't open his eyes, and when he thawed out he had spasms for about an hour, eyelids kept flittering, I still call him Blinky sometimes. I just got in the door, water was cold today, but more importantly it was high and fast, had to shut down til freshet is gone I think. 2 weeks and back at it. Take care, Chris

Chris,

First of all--I love the pictures of the nuggets--I always like to see gold. Secondly, I hear you about that black gold. I've got nuggets up north before that were as black as tar, but way too heavy to be tar. Ours cleaned up with vinegar--but that's obviously a very different coating your are packing.

I'm sure you're hard at it by now, and I know you'll do well.

All the best as you chase the gold,

Great Pic man. Try a half ski mask and a head band. Thy get wet but will hold in some body heat. You can cut a hole in the mask for your breather and whear them above and below your mask. I've been out in the snow melt too. The streem is just callin me and the winter blues won't let me wait. I just know the good stuff is laying there and noone else was crazy inoff to be out there and get it yet!

Thanks for the pic Chris;
? I found a similar platinum nugget while fishing the Fraser River back in 1971 but eventually threw it away at the same fishing spot, not realizing what it was!? It had the same bubbled surface and Stainless Steel colour, but I couldn't even mar the surface with a 5lb. sledge hammer and a full swing.? It was about 2.25" accross and about 70% metal...$$$? The density was the thing that was remarkable, hurting my finger when I chucked it away.? So I'm ordering a German metal detector from Seben.com and am getting back into nugget hunting.? ?;D? I know, you can't believe it but I know where it is and I'm going there again this fall and will post a pic if I find it again 33 years later!

Eeeeks! Beautiful stuff, and well worth going after, but I get cold at 65 degrees! Don' t think I could handle that freezing (melting?) water! Wait 'til it freezes solid, and then mine it out!
