Started metal detecting in June, now stands at only $6.00. But with the heat this summer and the fact I can only get out on day a week, I'm only averaging about 4 hours of swing time every seven days.

I average around 5 bucks per outing when hunting school yards spending about 4 hours each. Plus it is amazing though how many rings and jewelry I have found in schoolyard grass and baseball fields and soccer fields. I hunt every other day or so. I'll hunt a school really hard till there just is no more to find. Then I move on.

In the water it is quite a bit less but when I find something, it usually is worth a lot more than clad.

I save my clad and when I have enough, I buy a US silver eagle coin. I've got hundreds of them. Been detecting since 1986.

Hey Steve, I do the exact same kind of hunting but think I'm passing over the rings and jewelry? What kind of machine do you use?

More importantly, do you discriminate out pulltabs, foil, etc.? If you do, you may be missing the rings.

I haven't done much coinshooting this year. Been out in the AZ desert allot looking for gold. I will say, though, I've been hunting since the BFO days of the early '70s and success breeds success! The more you find, the more you learn where to look. If you reduce your question to "What's your clad count?", I will say... I've given up counting several hundred dollars ago. TTC
