hi acouple weeks ago I walk past a silver braclet on the ground in a dirt parking lot.it said 14k .I've been selling a lot of old hold jewlry but this is the first I've seen that was silver stamped as gold.I took it to the pawn shop and got 170 for it real easy.should have asked for more it weighed 4 penny weights siad 6 grams. and the other day I found this ring as soon as I pickdd it up I knew. yep its white gold.I found both these pieces with my built in gold detector.so know I've heard of gold detectors in the past but were way to much for me! but now Iam noticing the gold nugget finders are more I just want a md to comb the local parks and beaches? I live in san diego california iam surrounded by fields and parks and beaches I know a lot of people have lost a lot of jewlry.and most people don't even know the real value and just leave it.my girlfriend is all against me buying one thinks I wont find nothing but I figure it perfect reaspn to take my daughters to the park all the time. iam buying one with the cash I got from the gold bracelet so I have less than 200 bucks and I don't like to buy ofline afraid to put info like that online. so is the any local places I can buy one cheap or used? in san diego california.southern cali right by the tj border and the beaches.I heard gpod things about the compasre md but it seems alittle outa date with all the other I see for cheaper.iam a fast learner and a music producer so Iam sure I can pickup the different sounds easy and not aftid of buttons and learning! any advice will help a lot? thank you

Well, I suggest that you forget half of what you read here and take my sound advice, that is based on logic, not a whim :tongue3:

The good part is that you already set your price point, so stick to that and forget about saving up for a more expensive one. There are several reasons behind this, the first is you know what you can afford. Bravo. There's no need to get in over your head, especially if you never detected. This may not be the hobby for you, so why spend more than you need to, when you may use it a few times and hate it :dontknow:

You have already seen a few vote for the Tesoro Compadre that has a lifetime warranty and the Ace 250. I don't think you can go wrong with either machine. The beauty of this hobby is you don't need the biggest, or the best detector to find things, they all work well enough to give you the signal to dig.

Remember, no how much you end up spending, don't expect to get rich :icon_thumright: :laughing7:

I agree with spartacus. Go with the compadre

I'm late to the party here, but note that Tesoro's "lifetime warranties" aren't what they sound like. They mean the lifetime of the machine, not your lifetime. When they discontinue a model, then the warranty has just run out and they don't don't do repairs anymore, pleading no spare parts.

They aren't really fibbing, just using a different interpretation of the word "lifetime".

Note that I am NOT dissing their machines, just saying Be Informed.

See here's where I'm iffy myself on the tesoro warranties are they good oh yes but who keeps there detector lifetime & will tesoro keep fixing a 30 year old or even 10 year old machine & the warranty is good for the first owner. Now this is just what I've always thought so my info could be totally wrong if I am I would like to be correctd on how long they will keep fixing a machine is there warranty transferable to another person cuz

No, I have heard people tell stories of sending in discontinued machines under warranty. Where did you get your info?

Another thing u could look for is if you think this is a hobby that ur gonna want to persue & obviously in the future ill need an upgrade now if u like machines with screens I'd opt for the fisher f2 gives you the numeric tid & that will get you used to seeing #'s & what they mean. There are a couple out there, that provide this also minelabes' 305 is another very good choice lots of options for the money & u could get extra coils that will give you a different frequency, almost like using a totally different machine with each different coil

IMHO opinion there are only 2 choices to consider in yout situation. The Compadre or the Fisher F2. Sure, you can get Bounty Hunters for cheap but that's what you get, cheap.

You are over worrying about on-line purchases. As long as you buy through a reputable sponsor here...it is safe, cheaper and quicker. You do know that you will want a "good" pinpointer also. Bundled pinpointers are junk 99% of the time. Do yourself a favor and factor in another hundred for a pinpointer. You are now up to maybe $300, but it is well worth it.

Good opinion, but aswell a lot of us,know times, are tough I know that from experience myself my all my equipment recently got stolen out of my truck I still have a taped up make shift window so when u say just another $100 is all save up its,not that easy. The bounty hunter line there not well top of the line but they arent junk I know a lot of people who use them & find a lot of great things the bounty hunter platinum is a very well put together machine its the exact machine as the, gamma that tecnetics has they want 600 for & u get the, same for 3. It's,just a,matter of opinion in what people like, what works for 1 may not for another & no 2 spots are the same either. Last theres a reason why bounty hunter has been around for so long if they were junk & didn't work I dought they would be to the point there,at

Tesoro from what I have heard from my dad will back your purchase no matter the age. He has a old out dated Tesoro that was way past the retirement age and called and sent it back in and tesoro did their best to once again please the customer. They tuned the coil I detector, put new arm rest on it, and new battery box. So yes tesoro will stand by their product. I have used many detector and own several and my tesoro is my go to detector

Buy what you can afford you will still find the good stuff especially if you are finding jewelry just walking along! You can always upgrade later if you really enjoy the hobby and keep the old machine as a back up or trade in for a better one. I used the Ace 250 for a while and found good stuff with it that seems to be in the price range you stated.

Exactly well said, its,not about who has the, best detector or the most expensive one. For 1 there isn't a best one anywhere its in how, well you know what ur using someone with a 4 year's on a bounty hunter or a coinmaster or ace series whatever they have with that experience could blow, away a guy who has aday or so on a new v3i, a ctx 3030 more you know better the finds will be. Most of all just have fun if u get that extra cash & want to get better stuff so be it theres no race, or trophies we are all out to have fun find cool things talk to one another about things found or what not good luck

And always remember one thing: every target found is a treasure to you and no matter how many people tell u it's junk or put it down it's still a treasure to you! Any machine will work fine if you put a little practice into it and u can then upgrade to a better one. 20 years ago I started out with a $99 radio shack detector that I would have swore was a novelty item today but with that cheap detector and a little patience I was able to find my very first Minie ball and eventually locate a massive Union campsite on my families property. Look at all the amazing things I have found today. No matter what detector u have use it, learn it, and make u a lifetime of memories enjoying this great hobby.
