Suppose you were out hunting, and dug a 10K class ring, similar to the one in the photo, but just maybe not exactly the same ring. Also suppose, that you were able to ID the owner, without a doubt. However, during the ID process, you determined that he had a lengthy criminal record (including sex offender), and most likely has a warrant out for his arrest.

What do you do?

The guy is a scum bag, but does that mean you get to keep his ring?

Not only would I keep it, I would contact the law enforcement agency and talk with the detective on the warrant squad, and see if you can work in concert with them to sting this idiot when he comes to pick up "his" ring! :skullflag:

Exactly! It is his after all, so why not unite the two.

The warrant that is.

If there was a warrant for his arrest, I would tell the police. If that were not the case, or after the arrest business was handled, I would return the ring. Jesus will judge, both him and me.

Keep it and sell for whatever you can get for it. I do not try to return most of my finds. Usually when a person has lost something they get over it quickly IMO.
DO NOT get involved in any Sting operation as if successful you will be looking over your shoulder the rest of your life.

Terry Soloman nailed it. The police will do the "sting", not you and the guy will be off the streets. Listen to Terry...

You could always put it back where you found it ...if you found it , but deeper than detectors reach..

Notify the police. Who knows - it might be a missing piece of evidence linking him in a currently unsolved (lack of positive evidence) case. "Probably" not, but maybe.

Tom only suggested he had a warrant out for him. Check that first. If I knew where he lived I would warn his neighbors.

Sell the ring, keep 20% for a finders fee and donate the rest to your local battered women's shelter.

Tom, I would not return it, as a matter of fact, I'd sell it for the gold ASAP. The scum bag burnt his Karma when he did his crime/s. You can do with the cash as you wish.

By the way, congrats on digging the gold. :occasion14:

You might want to toss it on the ground the next time you hunt with Smittyman so he can learn how to find gold.

Good Idea-------------When we have a yard or flea market sale we donate most of whatever didn't sell to our local battered women's shelter in Jefferson. We also buy a bunch of books from there.
