If you Don't use one & Use your Detector Hard & properly (Scrubbing the Surface of the ground) you will eventually Wear a Hole Thru your Coil.

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?A coil Cover costs a Few Bucks, A new coil Can cost a Few Hundred. Which Would you rather Replace ?

Well gee, let me think about this.... coil cover $5.99, coil $119.99...hmmm... :P
So I am right that the coil cover is a sacrificial plastic cover that gets replaced periodically. Thanks for the information ;)
