concerning Coil Covers

Given that coil covers are supposed to prevent scratches on the coil housing, I still don't understand their real purpose and use. That is, do scratches really degrade the performance of the coil? Is the coil cover simply a piece of sacrificial plastic that gets replaced periodically?

If you Don't use one & Use your Detector Hard & properly (Scrubbing the Surface of the ground) you will eventually Wear a Hole Thru your Coil.

Well gee, let me think about this.... coil cover $5.99, coil $119.99...hmmm... :P
So I am right that the coil cover is a sacrificial plastic cover that gets replaced periodically. Thanks for the information
