I know the Etrac is not water proof...but what about its stock coil? Can it be submerged in shallow water?

Yes, the coil is water proof. Just be very careful about dropping the unit, or large waves rolling over the top of you. Lastly, DO NOT raise your coil up in the air for some time after dunking or you risk having water in the shaft drain into the control box.
