Here's a thread about the psychedelic era......roughly 1965 to 1973.....give or take a year or so.
Qualifications:
1. Born and raised by hard rockin' hippy parents.
2. All the classics ingrained into my brain since the day I was in a baby carriage.
3. Collected vinyl for a lot of years pertaining to this subject.

I had to say this in case the generation that actually grew up during this era wonders what a guy in his early 40's could possibly know about this music. Lol.
Won't be posting too many "Hits" but will post good songs by a well known bands that didn't really hit the charts.
Eventually, I will get into the more rare, lesser known artists that should have made it on to the charts.
Also, I will pick songs that were "ahead of their time" that you'd expect to hear in more recently; material that a DJ would love to remix; and songs/artists that basically created a whole new genre from the heavy LSD they were taking! :tongue3:
Yes, my motto: EVERYTHING was invented during this era!
I won't be checking out info on wikipedia so please correct me if my tidbits are wrong.
Please post away but I ask that you keep it from this era and make it trippy!
I'll get started here......
Everyone knows the big hit by these guys but I actually listened to the 1969 album "Ball" more and think it was under-rated.

This IMO, is one of their best and should be given more limelight. Check out the guitar solo and they crazy haunting "Star Trek" like part.

From their first album.....

Of course, you're welcome to post the "Big hit" if you want. ;D

I'll start off with posts of the more known bands but soon I'd like to get to all that more obscure, rare material.

Stay tuned!

I ended up doing this because I want to start a "World Fusion" thread but thought I should go back to where it all started.
It was this era that sitars became common place and I guess the Beatles were the most famous example.
Soon, Ravi Shankar was invited to the festivals and respect was given to the Indian culture.
Here's some examples.....

There's more of this coming later.
Of course if there wasn't a sitar playing, guitarists starting adopting this far eastern style.
Here's a famous one......

A lesser known but great song similar the last one. Them had their hits but I like this trippy one the best!

Anything these guys did qualifies for this thread but I'll post a few from the time period.
I still have flashbacks from my younger days when I listen to this! :tard:

I don't know how many genres these guys invented during that era! Punk? Metal? :dontknow:

Tons of hits by the Animals and appealed to the American hippy trend later on.....

Now being a rebellious head-banger, I was drawn to Eric Burdon.
Especially when he left the Animals to join an all African American band and on his album "Black Man's Burdon," he does a poem about the Queen's private parts! :laughing7:
Here's a cover tune from that album.....

Here, I'll even the score with a great (under-rated) band doing an Animals cover.....

There's a lot of great tunes by Frijid Pink that I'll cover later.

Speaking of garage punk, I can't believe this band isn't talked about for their influences on that genre. Incredible!

No, this isn't the Mama's and Papa's......it's The Yankee Dollar.
These should have been hits!

Another catchy tune that should have been a hit.
T.I.M.E.

A little more known tune that I'd love to remix!

Getting back to the bizarre, trippy stuff.
I have to make sure I post someone you've heard of before....Like someone who made it to Woodstock.
Not with this song though! :laughing7:

This is a crazy song that gets pretty heavy for its day.....

Keeping with the theme of insanity, the Spike Drivers.......

This whole album is crazy! I couldn't get the song I wanted so, it's at 20:04 Short Circuit.

Another hard to get album.....

Lots more to come!

This was one of the albums left to me when I was 13 or so, when my big sisters friend went off to Vietnam.

I have always loved the story to in the first track - Flying High

Excellent Inspector! We could fill page after page of Country Joe and the Fish and even his solo stuff too.
R.C. Thanks for the Dead! Another band that could be post after post.
Everyone, please don't feel like I'm picky because I didn't post any hits. I know everyone has their favourite album with songs they liked that didn't get played on the radio.
I will always love the hits too. Look forward to more posts!

Wanted to get back to Frijid Pink.....

Chorus sounds like something Motley Crue ripped off....

or something like that.

From the second album (1970).....

Almost sounds like Deep Purple but during the Coverdale years which hadn't happened yet! Or something bands in the 90's would do.
Another bluesy one.....

and this beat reminds of me of Ten Years After.....

I think their next album had a different singer.
