That was the best part of the trip. Out of the 6 days we tried to fish there was only one day we didn't get blown off. Then the salmon weren't biting anyway. We could have bottom fished closer to shore but we were after salmon. We caught bottom fish for camp meat though. The bad days the waves were 14 ft at times and the Coast Guard had the near gale flags flying. We went out in it one day but it was too rough to fish; had to spend all your time watching the waves. This picture doesn't show how bad it really was.

We got down to t-shirts but it was cool in the mornings and evenings. This was our camp site. The boat is moored just to the left of the trailer. We got some bottom fish for camp meat but we wanted to get into deep water for salmon. We did have some abalone but only caught one legal crab so we let him go.

I don't like going to the casinos with any buddy's of mine. I was in Elko Nevada for the mining trade show first week of this month and spent all I was gonna spend on the slots. My boss and he is a buddy also, was whooping it up at the craps table. It's always my buddy's that win and not me :-( That's good for your pal and I hope drinks and dinner was on him if he's truly a buddy. ?? Sure looks like you fella's had a hell of a time.

We had a great time although we couldn't salmon fish the deep water. Here's a few more pics. A blue heron hung around every day we were there. He ate the scraps when we cleaned fish or abalones along with the seagulls. This is one of those Coast Guard boats that can roll over without sinking. Notice the 2 red flags on the flagpole. It denotes "near gale conditions" but we went anyway. It was the third day and we were chomping at the bit. Couldn't stay out though, way too rough.

this pic still doesn't do the waves justice but anyone that has fished with downriggers can tell this is too rough to do it in. The 12-lb downrigger ball can bend the downrigger arm or even break it when it drops too fast. I'll throw in a few boat pics too. :)

He was playing slots....that's all he ever plays. We could have fished shallower water and got limits of rockfish and lingcod but we only fished them enough to keep us in camp meat. Nothing like fish tacos made with a just-caught lingcod! :) At least we ate good while we were there. Made fresh salsa and tartar sauce, deep fried fish and abalone and even ate burgers from home-grown beef one of the evenings. Then we'd kick back by the camp fire and drink beer or coffee. Fire drew other campers to our site for some great conversation.

Tsk, tsk. Woe to the gambler; I shall pray that he may see the light and find the true way. Do you suppose your lucky buddy could give me some tips about lottery numbers to play in that megamillions deal? haha!

Looks like fun anyway. Noyo Harbor is an interesting place. We spent a week in the apartment above the Dolphin Isle bait/convenience store. Cheap rent and something always worth watching.

Sounds like you guys had a GREAT TIME!!!! I wish I had the stomach for boating. Heck I went fishing way out on Lake Michigan ONCE. No more lost sight of land and my day was shot. Threw up all day long. Think I even went back to the week before.

Great jackpot your buddy hit. I won a much smaller one of $1,800 and they took state tax right there and said I'd have to pay Federal myself. Well 1.5 years went by and I get this letter from the IRS saying I own 4 or 5 hundred (can't remember). Wife says what do you want to do.... I just said "WRITE A CHECK .... NOW"!

calisdad.......my son's wife, son and 2 of his son's friends stayed in that same apartment over the deli for a couple nights. Very spacious and reasonably priced. We only ate at the deli once but it was great (biscuits and gravy with eggs) I even got a hug from the cook/waitress when I pointed out that "SPLIT PEE" soup was spelled wrong. :)
My buddy paid his federal taxes there also. It was over 5 grand but he wanted to make sure he didn't get bit later on.
RG, if he ever gave me numbers to play I would surely do it. One of our local guys just won $5 million on a $20 scratcher. He worked at a local gas station.
Here's a better look at the Coast Guard boat. Gotta put one of these on my wish-list!
