    Strange spot on the ground...

Today Fossis and I headed out to do a little metal detecting, which wasn't too successful. The land owner took us on his power mule to a strange spot in his field, where he said it looked like a big meteorite slammed into it, leaving some debris and a crater. We picked up some samples, which could be from a stony meteorite, or something we don't know. Fossis is going to send a sample to someone who may be able to identify it.

Then we headed out to Fossis' spot to look for some more fern fossils and petrified wood, and we found a few specimens to bring home, not much is left there. It was a great day to get out and pretty warm, Fossis forgot to bring his water and almost died of thirst.

This area has a slight crater all around, weathered down with time.
The (material) has a slight metallic hit on the detector, & the farmer had trouble driving fence posts for a hundred yds (it is just under the soil).
the material is heavy, not like lava rock, but fairly easy to crumble.

WOW...what a nice day you had...

Scotto....that is a really nice speciman of a fossil you have there....hubby says it appears to look like a TOOTHLESS FOSSISAURUS REX...

Did you grab that hammer thingy too? I bet that is the tool that the FOSSISAURUS may have once used!

Ahhhh, very interesting. How long before you know what the material is? I hope it's a meteorite - that would be so cool! Did you try putting a magnet on any of the material?
A magnet wouldn't pull to it, it is completely different from the local 'sandstone' found in this area, & I found a large chunk several years ago , two miles from here.
The landowner said we could have half if we could sell it, (fingers crossed) :P

I wanted to collect the Fossisaurus specimen to bring home and sell on ebay, but it was too heavy to pack out.

That's one of them venusian landing spots.
Too much ballast to take off and they left the biggest one behind.
They left him that hara-kiri hammer and he used it well.

    Fossis,

Maybe you need to spend a little less time looking at spots on the ground and more time watching "Survivorman" so you'll know what to do when you forget your water!
Look not mournfully into the past, it comes not back again. Wisely improve the present, it is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear and with a manly heart.

I don't care what the indians say you can't hear fossils coming in the distance
I know it's here, just need a bigger coil!
