FOUND A CAVE NEAR BELLMORE.; Abode of Long Island Burglars.

    April 9, 1894, Wednesday

BELLMORE, L.I., April 8 -- A well-made cave was discovered in a patch of woods about a quarter of a mile south of the Long Island Railroad tracks near this village this afternoon. The place showed evidence of recent occupancy, and the authorities believe that it is the headquarters of the burglars who have been committing robberies in villages in this section of the island. Nice story. Working around the corner from there tomorrow. Not many wooded areas. Really populated area. Will drive around and scope it out. Thanks

says "A well-made cave" this would
    most likely be a bunker
either in the side of an embankment
    or under foot.

if you see any type of holes or cutaways
    check the
    bottoms and sides if possable.
must likely it was ripped apart or
caved in by the law. but
    you never know.

    Good Luck !

Re: FOUND A CAVE NEAR BELLMORE.; Abode of Long Island Burglars.

drove by and looked for woods 1/4 mile from the train tracks. Area is well developed and only had one area that could have been a possibility. I did not have time to go trekking through the woods that time. next time i am in the area, I will take a look. Most likely with all the development, it is long gone. Good read anyway!
