Large California "Flesher"..... any Ideas on the Material?

Large California "Flesher"..... any Ideas on the Material?

I found this a few years ago along the San Mateo County coast, and have not seen (nor do I recognize) this material used. My best bet is petrified wood, but it's not chert.

Any ideas??

google Monterey chert and franciscan chert,looks like monterey to me

I don't think it's petrified wood. Those don't look like tree rings to me. JMO, nice blade though.

Looks like Monterey Chert. Franciscan is usually more green or red. Monterey is greys & sometimes black, both are indigenous to Cali. One of the best collections ever to come out of Cali / Oregon area was made primarily of Monterey & Franciscan. The Franciscan sometimes getting a gemstone quality, translucent greens etc. That was the H. F. Kenworthy collection, and his wife (Rose). They hunted the mouth of Mad River, Smith river, and up into Pistol bay in Oregon (back when you could actually find alot there). I done alot of research on them after the museum attained a good part of their collection. I have a full catalog where they documented their finds, etc. By far, they had the nicest collection of Gunther / Beach points that I know to exist. Remind me sometime and I'll show you a picture of some of them! Oh crap, I got off topic..sorry!!
