Neighbor found this in her garden

She dropped by this morn to share this with me & I thought maybe we could get info on it here. There was a village in the field next to mine, & 8 mounds that have been plowed for over 100 yrs. Could this be an artifact?

Looks like head form and from the back side it looks like it was once mounted on a stick.

How can I tell age?

My initial guess is native American effigy pipe. Me and my father have found several examples here in Ohio that are similar in design and material used. These were fairly commonly traded. As far as age that is beyond my expertise.

I would guess a broken effigy pipe as well. Very cool find MamaBear. You and you neighbor need to hunt.
