Near San Diego

Does anyone know of any good areas in the San Diego through LA area of California for gold panning? New to this activity and really excited about it but don't want to break any laws while I'm at it!

I ordered a bag of pay dirt off Ebay the other day just to practice with. Was super excited to find a few good size flakes!

I'm also new, and so far, I'm really enjoying my new hobbie. The best advice I can give you is to read this whole forum, chances are, many new ppl have already asked your question. Find local functions or ppl in your area that can show you how to pan - being as there are many different techniques, styles, and types of pans. Your local and or state department of natural resources (if I remember right) can give you the current laws.
