Hi! I'm brand new here, and new to rockhounding. I've always been curious about what's under foot and and have found some cool things over my lifetime. These days I am really interested in learning the skills of the trade. Namely, I want to start gold panning seriously. I have a pan and have attempted to find gold or other interesting rocks before, but no luck. I'd like to make a trip to Southeastern Arkansas for my first real try (I live in Texas at the moment). The problem is, I don't know exactly where to look. Does anyone have experience in Arkansas? The closer to the mountains the better?

We have gold in Texas, but you won't get rich. Llano River, Sandy Creek just outside Llano, upper Colorado River. If you are going to try Arkansas, read about the Ouachita Mountains. May be your best bet. Oldest mountains in our country and the Spanish explored there and mined some. Good luck...
