T he buttons are identical to three that I dug. They are revolutionary war greatcoat buttons. They are handmade with the shank as a part of the button. I found mine in R.I. Nice find.

Are you seeing different photos from the ones I'm seeing? I am seeing two common flat buttons with no designs or insignia on them. They are absolutely NOT rev war greatcoat buttons. They are civilian flat buttons, commonly in use from the 1700s up through the american civil war. A backmark or quality mark might narrow down that time frame a bit, but a pair of otherwise unmarked flat buttons are most certainly not affiliated with the revolutionary war.
