I have a Minelab 1000 that is acting up. The cable that goes into the power plug cap that screws into the battery is shorting out. When I move the cable on the end of the connector it cuts off the power. Is there away to fix the 3 prong connector so that the cable connected to it has the proper connection? Can the silver nut be unscrewed? The black cable that feeds power from the battery with the silver nut shorts when I move the cable.

Has it been in salt water? My suggestion is to send it to Minelab repair. Call Kellyco and ask to speak to Barry in their Minelab repair center, he can answer your questions and if need be they can fix it quickly.

Yes it has been in salt water. It still works but cuts off when the black power cable is jiggled at the silver nut going into the 3 prong connector.

Reason I ask is because there is good chance salt water has gotten in and water can travel up the inside of the cable and get into your control housing. I highly suggest you let Barry check it out or you could have major problems and expenses down the road....

I found my problem. The 3 prong connector has exposed screws on the inside and are not covered by rubber all over the connector like my Excal II. I have no idea how this happened. The picture shows the cap open on the top and one screw showing. It is the same on the other side. There must be a broken wire on lose connection on the inside of the cap. I sent the unit to Barry at Kellyco. IMG_1658.JPG IMG_1657.JPG

It turned out that I sent it to Kelly and had Barry fix it. The wire going into the battery casing was loose. Barry said that the exposed plug was okay.

Cool. Easy fix for Barry.
