What are some approximate dimensions of the item in question?

Hard to say. Around one meter, (3 feet) . Give or take.

Length is around one meter. Dimension is about 30 sm, (1 feet).

Sorry not very accurate.

It reminds me of a capstan but the bolt coming through the top like that has me second guessing.

it looks like the maxi brake chamber from a semi truck. when a truck gets shut down they let out the air from the brake system and a huge spring applies brake pressure directly to each brake drum. they use a diaprham and air pressure to release it.

Appears to be brass. Could it be part of a helm stand. Would be useful to know approximately what area of the wreck that it is located.

Its hard to say about the size, I quess its lenght is around one meter. Its location is around or near the boiler.

Well here comes another photos from diffrent angle. I still dont know the size of it, but underneath this object is porthole.

Does anybody have a clue what this thing is or what it does?

This item belongs to an 19 century steamship. Not much to say, built around 1860 in Scotland.

I was thinking, could this be part of an engine or something around the steam boiler.

Or is it possible that this could be part of its cargo?

Windlass...!! ?? Interesting idea.. but were they made out of brass..?

I have noticed that the other end is broken, that could have happen when the ships broke down and the boiler fell on its side. Like I said this item lie near the boiler.

Well maybe I will not know what this thing is, until we will salvage it and clean it.
