Well, it might be pottery but doesn't look like it to me, just saying because it lacks any smooth sides. Could be mortar drippings, natural rock formation, or even a fossil. What indicates pottery to you in this piece?

I am of the impression that a pre-title such as a piece being pottery, a consensus is being sought!

If an ID is wanted, then show a picture from all angles of the lump, then ask the question.

To me, this is a shapeless lump, and is no way can it be construed as pottery.
