Yesterday there was a group of THers that came together to check out and test a Dredge/Blower rig that Salvor6 had put together.
Gotta tell you that this ring worked great.
The pump motor is 8 hp. It ueses a 4 inch tube and hose or a 6 inch whatever you want to use.
When useing the blower to gotta turn the pump down to about 1/8 power or you will not be able to hold the blower hose-it will raise you right out of the water.
The sucktion is strong enough to throw a steady line of material about 4 feet from the end of the tube or you can leave the tube underwater and still get the job done.
I am thinking about how this device could be used on the beaches.
Right now it is bolted to the bottom of a Jon boat but would be very easy to remove an attach to a device to be pulled by hand down the beach. All it would take is some FAT tires and a small metal fram.
It would fit on a Go Kart frame.
You could dig a 5 foot holes in less than 10 minutes on the beach.

Cornelius you are exactly right. There is a 6" hose attached to the jet log (shown). One end is the suction end, the other is the discharge end.

Cornelius you are right again. This is a Keene Engineering suction dredge used for gold mining. Yes it has to be primed but there is a primer hole on the side of the pump that makes it very easy. Once it is primed, you can stop the engine and it will not loose its prime. One thing you are wrong about: the dredge works great in shallow water. The discharge is about 100psi. and we used this yesterday in 3' deep water with great results. It is meant to work in shallow water where an air lift will not.

salvor 6's dredge can be used to remove sand from a beach or to dig a big hole.but first the sand has to be liquified by useing a gas or diesel powered water pump with a squirter end on it,something like a firehose nozzle.then once the sand is like liquid the suction dredge can be used to suck up the sand.

I've done a lot of dredging for gold in the 40 mile district and other areas of Alaska. I use a 8 inch and a 5 inch diameter hose dredge. The 5 inch hosed dredge was specially made by Patrick Keene in Northridge, CA. when I lived there.
It will suck gravel up to the sluice box from as deap as 25 feet down. It uses an over-sized impeller in the pump and a 11 horse honda motor...a fine machine. Also, for breaking up clay and shaley bedrock, to free up the gold, there is a water 'blaster' off from the pump that delivers high pressure water out of a nozzle. works great...
