    EMI and Gain

Im new to the V3I and just recently started using the Hi Pro program with great success. I notice however that its super chatty. Each time I've used it i've had to put the gain down to 3. I do increase the sensitivity to 60. So my question is, what is the max depth you can expect with a gain set to 3? Am I losing out on a lot of the deeper target?

IMHO: It could be due to area you are hunting (electric fence, EMI...etc.). The Gain of three is very low, probably only a 3 - 4 inches (never tried that low)? Some of the programs are more aggressive than the others, meaning they may be a bit chatty in places. I would build your own test garden and answer the Gain of three question. These gardens are very good when learning the machine or trying new detector settings.

    Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

You are probably right about the area just being high in EMI. Ive considered a test bed. I may actually do that. Thanks

Couple things to try if your having to drop all the way down to 3. I would start at 7 and reduce the All Metal Sens to <55 and see if that helps. I would also consider either locking in on 1 freq or switching programs to maybe C&J.

Worse case at 4 with TX Boost I still feel pretty good getting 6" depth plus on most targets. I use HI Pro or Magic program in wide-open spaces but tend to stick with C&J (modifiied as needed) for emi in town.
Make sure it is not your phone as well.
I'm still new to the V3i as well and its amazing what it can do but kinda scary that you can set it up wrong as well. First thing I do is reduce recovery speed to 60 or lower because I have tested enough to know I don't swing slow enough and will miss targets if recovery is around 80.

This is great info, thank you. To be honest I have overlooked recovery speed. Ill take your advice. I have a huge problem with C&J. I have an 18k gold chain and C&J flat out rejected it. Hi Pro gets it every time. Who knows how much gold ive passed up. Ill give the All Metal sensitivity a whirl as well.

SO check this out. in Hi Pro, in an area of my yard ive hit hard in C&J, I picked this up last night. 10 inches down in Hi Pro with Gain at 10 and All Metal at 65. The VDI was a consistent 57 the whole way.

Usually a +57, +58 and + 60 is a slim Indian head 1864 to 1909. RGB. Even a $10.00 Gold Eagle could register +57 to +58. RGB. I never use HiPro only CJ.

I would also make sure you are getting and good ground balance...super important with the V3I....also what coil are you using because setting your gain to a 3 is about like hunting with your pinpointed while standing...smaller coils are less susceptible to EMI like the 4 x 6 or even the 6 x 10...

That copper coin with the two pillars and crowns is a VERY EARLY Spanish maravedis! A winner in anyone's book.
