Hi all, just bought this hoping its gold and diamonds. Not sure what T8 means, total weight of the stones? If not oh well. Just don't want to look dumb if I get it appraised haha. It says 14k and on the inside of catch T8.

Testing is absolute.

PS... IF that thing is real... that is a Banner find if ever there was one for thrift store score.

Keep us posted.

First test... strong magnet... BUT... the "link pins" could atrtract.

IF it does not stick this does not mean its real but does pass the initial testing process "step 1".

Looks real to me. The construction is spot on - particularly the prongs and the hinge and the conservative use of stones. Fingers crossed for you!

Good... first step completed... green flag.

Not sure if you want them or not but I will throw you a few bones / next steps ... just cuz I am curious on the "turnout" on this ...

Now...

#1. Test gold for 14k.
#2, Test stones for diamond.

IF you do not have the ability to preform either of these tests on your own,,,
Any pawn shop can do this easily... walk in and ask them "what would you pay on this".

They will then proceed to test both ( IF they are competent in the slightest... most are simply because they have been burned or almost burned )
IF they do not test the diamonds and only test the gold and weigh it... then make you an offer ... good chance they already know the diamonds are real and are trying to "low ball" you and this visit to THAT shop has taught you 2 things...

#1. Its real
#2. Never go back to this particular shop again... they are shady.

Tell no one that is examining the piece anything about it...play like you know already and let them tell you their opinions... ESPECIALLY that you bought in a thrift store AND what you paid.

IF they make an offer / a price after testing then you know it is good... then politely say "I am going to think about it... thank you... I might be back".

IF they counter offer... now you know its might be really good.

Next step...

A real jeweler / appraiser... IF you would like the maximum value a jewelry appraiser is the way to go... you get paperwork on it and you just increased value substantially.

Whatever you do... do not take offers / sell until you have had AT LEAST 3 opinions... IF you are actually wanting to sell the piece.

Remember... you are dealing with diamonds (IF REAL ones) with this... not chips... so clarity and inclusions dictate TRUE value of this piece.

They start talking diamond this diamond that... not being this and that... This is "tire kicking on their part.

Pay attention to their levels of interest which may be hard to read many times due to the "act not interested to get a better deal".

Generally ... the more interested they are.... the better its is. :)

PS... Just because the gold is good NEVER means the stones are as well.. in fact more times than not... they wont be.

CZ is the majority.

This is the clincher on this particular piece... which... regardless is a great score for you...
gold weight alone you have done well... but upon sale for gold weight most buyers will deduct for the CZ weight. (CZ's are heavy)

This is why those stones will take this particular piece "up or down" in overall value.

Hope these tips will help guide you in some way if not in all.

Thank you for all of the tips, taking it to a very reputable jeweler today who buys gold and gemstones.

Ok guys, it's real. Diamond tested at the jeweler. She said that it would sell in their store for $2,000 or more. Total pennyweight 11.63. But they could only give me money for gold melt.

All are different... but when it comes to money... who can really be trusted when they know you don't know anything about whats in your hand or how things run in their business.

Easy mark for some that may be unscrupulous... After all... again... we are talking about money.

Unfortunately.

Good deal.

You will be satisfied that you did.

One last hint.

Some of the nicer jewelers can afford to pay more and might be worth a try.

Melt is just that... melt.

This WONT be melted... so don't get paid melt for something they have no intention of really melting.

Follow ?

:)

Good luck.
