Made a couple of short hunts this weekend between rain drops, Got some big silver in the form of a nice Franklin half dollar (second one this year) and 2 barber dimes 1911 and 1914 also a rosie for luck! The trails through the park produced a silver and turqoise ear ring that looks fairly old with the old screw type back on it. On the way back I got a real interesting watch fob that has the statue of liberty on it that came from 12 inches deep! I almost gave up on digging that beauty! The most interesting find was a very large coin that says 10 pennia on the front and has a large N on the back with a crown and roman numeral 2 on it, it has the date of 1865 so if anybody has any idea what this thing is the info would be appreciated. I finished up with a 1939 dog license and a nice size piece of float copper that we get here now and then, its my second piece in the last week. I hope you all are finding the treasures of your dreams!

heres the updated photo of the 1914 D barber dime Creeper! ;D

Re: 2 hunts and a wierd coin???????

It's an 1890 10 pennia from Finland. I have seen this coin sell for $15-25 in similar condition.

Compare it to this one from 1891. "N III" represents Czar Nicholas III of Russia. (Finland was ruled by Russia at that time.)

That 10 penniä coin is very nice find,i have found few similar coins in finland, but yours is in very good condition, congratulations.,But i wonder how on earth that coin end up in america, damn finnish immigrants. ;D Old finnish coins are so beautiful. :headbang:

If i am not going blind,In those pictures is is 10 penniä 1895 and the ruler is Nikolai II and value is around 350 euros=463 dollars.

Re: 2 hunts and a wierd coin???????

its a 1895 finland (under russian rule ) 10 pennia***** nicholas the II --the russian ruler of the time was called nicholas the second --thus the N II on the coin ----) --A however is for Alexander ---now in 1863 however its worth noting that this russian ruler --Alexander the second (A II) gave the finnish people a lot of freedom due to to the loyality they had shown him in the past -- inculding the right to make their own "money "* --also (A II) by royal decree in 1861 --got rid of the surf laws *--freeing the russian peasants

the russian line--- alexander the II, till march 13 of 1881 when he was killed by a bomb thrown by the "peoples will" group --then alexander the III till 1894 --when the last czar took over --nicholas the II -- he dropped claims to the crown when the red army took him and his family --they later wiped out the royal family

this is a finnish coin --with the last russian czars mark on it "N II" --the finnish due to kindness shown them by Alexander the second * were not as hateful of the russias as many others were.--like the poles who were heavily suppressed.

Very nice selection there Jack! Those halves make your heart skip a little when they pop out. I like the old finland coin as well. Keep tearing it up over there.
