Boy, was I surprised. . .

About 90% of my hunting is in the wooded areas around Chicago and this one particular site
hasn't disappointed me yet

Every time I've hunted this site, I've been fortunate to recover a silver or two and at the worst,
an early Lincoln. But yesterday, was a hunt that I'll always remember.

While working my way through the Buckthorn, I got a solid quarter signal. . . from all angels. . . and
when I started digging, I took a wide birth to avoid several roots that were guarding my target.
After digging a hole about 7" deep and 12" wide, I felt I had all my bases covered so I scanned
the pile of dirt right next to the hole and got a solid repeatable tone.

I pin-pointed my target and saw a silver, reeded edge and the unmistakable arrows clenched within
an eagle's claw and I knew immediately I had found a Barber. I had no clue as to it's date so to
avoid any damaging scratches, I placed it in a plastic container and waited until I got home to reveal
it's date.

It was worth the wait. . . it was the oldest Barber I have ever found

I was excited when I found this Lady on Monday and now I'm really
excited to see her face again on the Banner. . . OMG.

My first indication that this could be a really nice quarter was the
sharpness of the reeded edge that was peeking through the mud.
I originally thought was this may be a silver Washington because
the person I was hunting with (Looking4Seated) had just found a
silver Rosie not more than 30-yards from where I was at. But then
when I saw the detail in the eagle's claw & arrows, that's when I
packed it between several wet leaves in a plastic pill container
without even trying to see a date.

When I got home, I was able to rinse almost all of the mud off and the
mud that remained, I carefully dislodged with a small Sable brush.

Congratulations on the Banner and an incredible coin. . If you go to have it graded it would probably go EF-45. There are several reasons it would not be a final grade of AU. The very fine, but noticeable scratches, on the face. The two deep ones I see just below the left of the Eagles beak. I've had many coins graded, and graders are very, VERY, picky when it comes to AU grade. Although beautifully toned and extremely well struck. AWESOME looking coin guy, and very well Banner worthy. There will be some that disagree with my grading, but still others that WILL agree. These are the people who have actualy had coins graded and know what I'm talking about. So many people are disappointed using grading companies, (me being one). I would be shocked if it went AU-50 by a reputable grading service. MO. Unbelieveable ground find!!!!

Barbers with practically no wear like that coin are NOT common..even coins still containing luster are often more worn than your coin here. And congrats on not wiping the dirt off with your fingers once you found it in your pile. 8)

Good job getting it out of the hole undamaged. A lot of times, when there are roots you have a tendency to hack away at the roots which, at least in my case, can dice up a coin pretty good.
