Cru'dad's time to shine - Our oldest Coin - WOW - Updated with a scan

I rang up our newbie detectorist friend & asked him if he wanted a couple of hours on the field we did well on last night. He said yes, so Dad & I sprung into action.
It was pouring down with rain most of the time. I picked the area & after 4 runs of nothing Dad started with his 'its not much good here, we will do better over there'. I shouted in my usual way 'you go where you want & I will carry on here'. He said grudgingly 'OK then I'll carry on'. I tell no lie, within 5 seconds of him starting the next run & with me a few paces ahead he shouts in a way that I knew was either the best Roman Silver EVER or it was a Celtic Gold! Second thought was true & we got to share the moment with our detecting friend (who ended up with 2 Roman coins, 1 of which is his best so far).
It was only 5 minutes ago I looked up the coin & realised its our oldest Coin ever!

Gallic War Type circa 60-50BC
Gold Stater
Gallo-Belgic E - imported from Gaulish tribe of Ambiani

Over 6g of soild Gold ;D
VA54-1
One of the oldest Coins your likely to find in the UK (40 years earlier than this one is the earliest)

We are on fire - 5 Gold Coins this year (1st one to Dad but in his usual style its a cracker!)

Just to put the icing on the cake, I have 8 Roman Bronzes which takes us to 1000 this year!
Very debased Roman Silver
Roman Brooch
Roman Pin Head

UPDATED:
Tried a scan but it wasn't much better :-\ Its better in the hand :o

He's never going to get an XP now!

Its days like these that my Dad hopes for, so as to save face & prove there is still possibilities for the old Cortes ::)

I bet you wish he had gone walkabouts now and left it for you :D

No, I'm happy for him. Sadly the newbie was working the opposite direction & missed it by 8 inches :-[ (because it was just outside his swing)

Oh WOW!! That is SO. . . shinny! :icon_sunny:

Has Crudad ever considered joining TNet?
I know a few folks in Chicago that could make
him an offer he couldn't refuse :)

Tell your dad congrats on his wonderful find

I bet he could. I keep ALL his finds ;D He has about as much interesting in money as me - 0. (apart from the old stuff) :icon_thumright:

This will never make the banner as its by a non-member, those are the rules. No need for another one up there until its my turn  :D ;D

Rules are made to be broken.

It looks like you have the answer to the Celtic ring money thing too :laughing7:

Forgot to say, whats interesting about the ring & plate is the plate is marked with a makers mark - W? over a crown which makes it medieval. I think this one was a belt ring for a purse (maybe)

Very GOOD FIND FROM YOUR DAD,and very old ,AND VERY GOLD, :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :headbang: :hello2: These types of finds an stories shared with a family member has to be the best of the best. You are the man again although I think your dad is tying to steal your thunder Cru, :laughing9: Maybe get him signed up on here now.A little late on this find I guess but the way you guy's pull stuff from the ground it won't be long and he'd probably have something like it to post.I was honored to have got chance to see such a coin.I will say Banner for sure but guess I better not hit the button cause I'd get flack for it.You guy's continue to have good times and get this man signed up so I don't have this problem again. :laughing9:

That gold coin would make any veteran gold miner absolutely green with envy! I have never seen a coin that old....EVER! Words alone can not begin to describe how awesome this find is, and the fact that it was hammered with an abstract design makes it even more awesome. This is so incredible that it gives me the sudden urge to return to my ancestors home (Wales) and try to hunt down one of these coins for myself. That beauty is absolutely priceless!
