Man That is a beautiful piece of gold. Sure does look like a coin. I had the same thing happen to me one time. Found a round object made of gold thought I had a coin. Turned out to be a 1907 fraternity pin with the pin missing.

Very nice find! Looks like one of the saxon coins Crusader finds all the time.
