Thanks for all the posts. I hate to report I have temporarily misplaced this piece (right now I am blaming everything on one particular cat of ours). It is in the house somewhere and I have banned the operation of all vacuum cleaners untill it is found, which it will be eventually. I remember seeing no markings what so ever on the back side of the pendent. When I find this I will clean it up and post the back side. Thanks!

For a moment I thought I had a coin. This is an old pendent, real old judging by the depth it was found. Normally I am finding 1870+ at just 3", this was about 4-5". Thanks for looking.

To answer the question under your screen name, I'm pretty sure I'd pee my loincloth.

I believe what you've found is a piece of Art Nouveau jewelry. It was quite popular from about the 1890's to WWI, and has to some extent remained popular to this day, so unless it's marked it'll be difficult to determine the age, but a very nice find nonetheless

In 1890 - 1905 a number of gold jewellery appeared inspired by ancient civilizations. A series of 'lady's heads' was popular like Bysantine lady's head here. I wonder if it is not an Egyptian lady's head of the same series. Dying to see the marks.

By more abstract manner of image, I daresay that it is late Art Nouveau jewellery (20 century rather than late Victorian)

I had a cat once where every ink pen in the house would slowly disappear until there was none so i had to go buy more and they disappeared also ? it turns out for reasons unknown to me or my wife the kitten did not like pens and hide them under a throw rug how she did that is a mystery still but its the truth , i had to lift the rug one day and there was 12 pens under it ? look under the rugs :laughing7:
