Hey everyone ,
I got out to a school near my house here in San Jose that I have hunted at least 20 times since 1998 . I only had an hour before having to get home . I found $4.29 in clad but , the surprise was a 1914D Barber dime at only 3 inches :headbang:My guess is that a kid lost his show and tell coin . ??? The other thing I found is the back side of a Kennedy half . Very strange :icon_scratch: Maybe it was part of a piece of jewelry ? Any ideas would be great :icon_thumright:

The half dollar you found is like the one I found in a local park earlier this year. :icon_scratch: It was a half dollar on one side and a English coin on the face of the other side. I showed it to one of the guys at work who's a coin collecter and he said that they are two different coins that are turned on one side and then glued together for souvenirs. Still was fun to dig.

I think the 1/2 is part of what they call a magician's coin they machine them in half one part looks like that the other part has the rim on it. you can make 2 heads or two tails or you could put your dope inside. I found the opposite of what you found back in feb 2010.

You have half of a Scotch and Soda magicians trick coin. Usually there is another foreign coin glued to the inside of the half you have. The other side of the Kennedy half dollar is machined out and the two pieces snap together. You need a "bang ring" to open the complete Scotch and Soda coin or place it in a jar and shake it until it comes apart.

Here is a link to an ebay auction so you can see the complete coin.
