Gold 1780 United Netherlands 'HOL' Ducat
Hi all,
Started searching filled area at base of a bridge, lots of penny hits, got what I think may be another state cent ( smaller than a George HP),
Turned a clump of mud, found a modern penny, scanned the pile again,
peeled it open and the Sun Just Shined !
Bright as the day it was milled, 1780 Netherlands Ducat, Many with 'TRA' above sword sent to Ceylon for spice payments, This one with 'HOL' was intended for local use. Maybe I'll go back today......
HH everyone

Wow! You sure are finding some interesting things up there. Congratulations on the nice old gold. Where the heck is Ceylon. I've heard of it but maybe the place is called another name two hundred and thirty years later. B A N N E R

Ceylon is now Sri Lanka in 2004 that huge title wave hit it . After over two thousand years of rule by local kingdoms, parts of Sri Lanka were colonized by Portugal and the Netherlands beginning in the 16th century, before control of the entire country was ceded to the British Empire in 1815.
If Mother Earth give,s us precious metals like gold silver and copper why leave them in the ground to disappear forever , dig them out and save History !!

Ceylon (former name of the British crown colony established in 1798) is the big island off the SE coast of India; now called Sri Lanka since it became a republic in 1972.
BTW, great looking coin !!
