Got out for a very quick hunt this morning, and was able to dig this Massachusettes civil war button. Atleast thats what I think it is. Says Massachusettes on it. And has there state seal. Judging from it being a two piece and the Scoville back mark I am assuming civil war. But any info from the button exsperts is much appreciated. Found it on ebay says made between 1860-1870.

Maybe when you get your Maine button I will get my Tennessee button but I would be happy with that button anyday. I just got permission for a new battle yard and hope to dig some cw stuff this weekend.
Have a great holiday!

Nice button! If you google Scoville or Waterbury button co. there is a list of their backmarks and the dates they were used. Just check the back and you will have a date for your great looking button.

Tice. Hands down. It's the newer one of the two, and it has better general info about button backmarks, as well as a button manufacturer list with time frame in terms of years.
