So I've spent the last 5 weeks down in West Virginia land clearing for a 200 mile long power line. Along the way I've discovered several old homesteads MILES back into no mans land. These places are in such remote locations I very highly doubt they have been looked upon by human eyes for many moons. The cellar holes are much different than New Englands. In this part of West Virgina (Morgantown/Fairmont) The foundations are made of large sandstone block and are not nearly as deep. I didn't have much time to detect at all...I was working 80 hour weeks. However, I did manage to get out one time to a spot I was told about. I only detected for about an hour and this is what I came up with. MY VERY FIRST SPANISH SILVER! 1808 Carolus III! ( found an inch down right in the middle of one of our skidder roads...I did not scratch this coin) A batwing buckle, and a tombac button. Cant wait to get back down there with a little more time....I'm sure theres much more. Thanks for lookin.

Congrats Sniffy. You were overdue for a Spanish silver. Would love to see a pic of the foundation, if you have one.

I was seriously considering taking a day off while down there *cough cough* I would love to spend 8 hrs at this site....only one set back...the briers are horrible there and theres only a small area around the foundation to swing. BUT...chainsaws will take care of that.

Way to go Sniffy. Those are some nice finds. I bet doing right of ways you run across all sorts of stuff. Need to carry a Gps and one day when you retire camp out on them.
