A miner's tag and who knows what. Help!
After morning baseball practice and afternoon leaf raking, I headed down to an old home site down the street from my mother's house. Previous finds here include a 1902 Indian head penny and a V nickel whose date escapes me now. We're looking for a privy here, but there is still a lot of brush and we need some killer freeze to push it back. I think I found a privy where one should be, and I'll dig it one of these days, but I took the detector for a little workout while I was there. I found this #40 miner's tag and a little scalloped disk with some wording on it. It appears to have a patent date and some other information, but I have no idea what it might be. It's smaller than a dime. Hopefully, the picture will turn out big enough to bring the letters out; even with a magnifying glass, my old eyes can't decipher it all!
