hi all. Been busy with work lately and the spring has been quite wet. managed to get a few hours in late Sunday. With just a few hours i didn,t go far. the site was a gold mine and crushing battery located half way up the side of a hill. The gully below was called Garden Gully and the saddle gold quartz reef was mined for a 100 years. Theres over 400 mines in this area and the amounts of gold once mined was huge. Most Mder here don,t hunt sites like this far to junky . Yes junky are my finds for the effort. "The passion of the hunt is a greater prize than the banner" :laughing7: :laughing7:

Nice Finds Tinpan :icon_thumleft:  To me it takes a more seasoned MDer who knows what he's doing to go into sites like that and pull relics. Most detectorist don't want to struggle with the trash you're right, but I've used this to my advantage MANY times in the past, finding some of my rarest finds in trashy city lots! I always count on some impressive finds to be hiding under the trash because most other MDers think "Nothing there but a bunch of TRASH" :laughing7: :laughing7: GOOD, I want them to keep on thinking that, more for me! LOL Beautiful site that you have there, the landscapes you guys get to hunt are great. And then to pull off that many buttons and some coins too is a nice day indeed. Any one of those buttons signals could've been something really Rare! Nice take and continued success to you buddy :icon_thumleft:

Hello tinpan,
That is one crazy awesome looking, possible nightmare, of a site! Be careful where you are walking so you do not step in one of those holes.

I detect/prospect in the Northern California historical gold fields along the old rivers, not near any hydraulicking areas so I do not see as much obvious mining signs as you are working in. I found some nice nuggets this year, just over pickers and a touch more for a few of them. It was great fun.

The trash will plague you but then you expect that. Have a good time! 63bkpkr

thanks for the replies, besides the vast amounts of junk, the ground mineralization [hot rocks] will become more active as the temp goes up. Sites like this are best left for the cooler months so i will have find some other sites. With all the rain we have had the other gold diggings in the local forrest are all overgrown with undergrowth . Might have to travel a fair distance to find some other sites. Bushfires and deadly snakes are real and need to be respected.
