COLONIAL SILVER SPOON ? & IH'S!

got out with Frankie boy today.we both had the day off and thought we would take advantage of the warm day.
2 IH's (my 49th on the year) 1882 & 1898,a small silvered flat button and a monogrammed silver spoon that unfortunately has the bowl portion all mangled.i tried to unfold it slowly with plyers but where the folds are it started cracking from stress so, i stopped.it's not hallmarked but no doubt silver.the monogramed lettering style seems colonial era to me.

Re: COLONIAL SILVER SPOON ? & IH'S!

Beautiful IH's and spoon. Almost looks "gold."

A. R. Arthur Paul Revere. ha!

Good job! If you can look up the old land records of where you found it, you might find a clue. Good luck!

As for the other item, looks like it might be a hook of some type maybe. Doesn't swivel, so isn't a latch of any kind, I presume. Interesting....

What do you mean, 'the name on the cellar hole was M. Rose?' Can you post a pic of that? I didn't know cellar holes had names... If it is a child's spoon, which crossed my mind, then you have Alice or Amanda or ... or .... Amy... or Artimus??? Seriously, didn't know about cellar holes having names. Need more pics!

Nice going on the digs! The spoon is great! Too bad there is no halmark on the spoon. I hope you are able to get some more detecting in now that the frigid weather is on its way!

Ahhhh, good job! Now you know you're dealing with the "Rose Plantation," or some such. Good luck with future digs and congrats so far! Wonderful artifacts! :icon_thumleft:

Definitely early to mid 1700's , similar colonial child size spoons are dug in my area , settled in 1650's :icon_thumleft: . No frozen ground here yet , hope it stays that way for at least another 5-6 weeks .

Like Dawg said, I think its a 1700's find, no hallmark because it's coin silver and locally made.
