1889 Indian Head. I know it isn't that outstanding to some of you, but having been detecting for only one year, I'm pretty stoked. Beat my previous oldest coin by twenty seven years. Before I get reprimanded, my sister rubbed on it pretty good before I saw what she was doing :'( Is there any way to clean this any further, or should it be left alone? HH, BS

Nice Job :icon_thumright: I'll never forget my first Indian Head....it was the coin I wanted in the worst way...went on to find 5 of them in less than a month. Keep at the area and find more, they are there!
Congrats

Excellent find. I love finding IH's no matter what year they are. Beautiful coins.
I agree, I have had great luck cleaning IH's in hot peroxide and using a Q-tip to gently brush away the crud once it has soaked for awhile. Rinse it off good with water after that. I usually put a light coating of olive oil or Vaseline on mine to give it a nice shine.
Congrats,
MM

yes, I try a hot peroxide dip. You may want to repeat the process. The first is always one you will remember!

Way to go! Its a thrill to find your oldest coin. I agree with an earlier poster, your coin will clean up really well. A wooden toothpick might help you remove some of the crust.

Oh yeah! That's going to clean up nicely! All great cleaning tips offered. I remember my first Indian. It was so worn that it took what seems like forever to make out the date....was a 1904 btw. :tongue3: Isn't it crazy the things we remember from our hunting experiences? :D
Congrats on that oldest so-far find, Squirrel. :icon_thumright:

Nana :)
