After yesterdays hunt in my neighbors yard didn't produce any old coins I figured I would do some relic hunting. I have found alot of buttons and musket balls at this site and it has been hit hard over the years. I found 8 buttons, some musket balls and some melted drops of brass. I found my 2nd large copper coin for the year. I thought it was a draped bust cent when I found it. I couldn't find a date on the front. When I got it home an rinsed it off I saw 1775 on the back at the bottom and figured it is a British coin of some sort. What kind of coin is this? I have found some other smooth coppers at this site but nothing with a date. It amazes me that you can go over a spot 20 times and think it is cleaned out until something like this turns up. Not a bad hunt and I got my old coin fix for the day. Thanks for looking! DD

Dave, Nice colonial coin. Somebody here should be able to ID it. I found a 1700's King George II copper and could see the date but when I got home and washed it the date wasn't visable any more.

Looks like a George111 penny :P judging by the amount of lead, and small finds, I'd say a long way to go on that site

Nice contemporary counterfeit, I think 1775 was one of the more popular ones :icon_thumright:
